The Fung Brothers are a Chinese-American Youtube duo involving two real-life brothers, David Fung and Andrew Fung. David is the eldest having been born on September 1, 1986, while Andrew was born on March 30, 1988. Both brothers were born and raised in Kent, Washington. They both attended Kentwood High School and graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Being born to Asian immigrant parents who wanted their children to follow the family tradition of becoming either an engineer, lawyer or doctor, the Fungs’ childhood had been a constant clash between their parents’ wishes and their own. The two brothers were highly influenced by American sub-culture, which included hip-hop, comedy, and basketball.
The Fung Bros Youtube channel was created May 21, 2011 and has over 2.09M subscribers and over 400M total views to date.
A majority of their content on Youtube is geared towards the Asian American audience and they’re considered pioneers in this market. Some of their viral Youtube content includes videos covering the 626 area in San Gabriel Valley, California, NBA player Jeremy Lin, interview with democratic candidate Andrew Yang and exploring different Asian cuisines. Their rise to fame has led them to being featured on the Cooking Channel, Travel Channel, NPR and the New York Times.
In 2015, The Fung Brothers were given the opportunity to go from Youtube to national television when they where chosen to host a show titled, “Broke Bites: What the Fung?!” on the A&E Network’s FYI channel — a huge accomplishment as it was rare to have a show hosted by an Asian American, let alone two. The series followed David and Andrew as they traveled across the United States looking for the best local eateries with only a $50 budget for food.
Most recently, the brothers have used their platform to bring awareness to how the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting Asians worldwide.
