As a menswear blogger, often times it's very easy for me to overpack for a trip of any duration. So for my recent work conference trip, I decided to challenge myself to pack smart and use essential pieces to create three different looks. I was inspired by the GQ 48 Hour Wardrobe from a few years ago that mixed and matched for business and after-hours looks. The trip had a packed itinerary with meetings and dinner so this guide is great for how to dress just right for the occasion. I had a fantastic stay at the Renaissance Westchester hotel featuring nice interior designs that are stylish and modern which made me feel right at home coming from NYC.
For the 48 Hour Wardrobe - I created three looks using the color combinations of navy and brown. This was ALL that I packed for this short business trip. Here's a quick breakdown of the essential men's style items:
Navy Pinstripe Suit - Classic suit that goes well with everything. I went for the pinstripe for more subtle details. The jacket can be paired up with khaki pants and jeans.
Double Monk Strap - Dressy and easy to pair with both suit and jeans. Perfect shoes to dress up and down in this occasion especially when I didn't want to bring more than one pair of shoes
Leather strap watch - Can't go wrong with a clean minimal sharp watch that matches the shoes and puts the whole look together
Follow along the post to see the three looks below!
Look I: Business Casual - Going full business with my Navy Pinstripe suit and a light blue shirt. Since the conference was a business casual setting, I decided to ditch the tie but add in the detail of a clean sharp gingham pocket square. This is a great stylish look without screaming "look at me" with just enough details for the everyday person to notice.
Look II: Smart Casual - A day of meetings have gone by, it was time to make a quick change for drinks and dinner with some networking. I swapped a white polo and grey jeans for the casual evening look. Keeping the navy pinstripe jacket and monk strap from earlier in the day, the new pieces will keep me comfortable and sharp for the night.
Look III: Business Casual - Boom! Just like that we are on my third look for my 48 hr stay. On my second day playing off the same essential pieces, I went for a brown tone look to go with the navy jacket and monk strap. Flipping the combo from Look I, I'm now rocking a gingham shirt and a simple color lined pocket square. The gingham shirt and pinstripe jacket makes a nice subtle pattern mixing combo. The brown matches well all over with the dress shoes and leather watch.
